New Social Media Attack!

Important information about your online security.

Social media is a great way to connect with friends, family, and community members; however, it does come with certain cyber security risks. Thieves are constantly coming up with new ways to gain access to your personal information with the latest being "angler phishing". When a public complaint is made on a company’s social media page (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), these thieves pretend to be a customer service representative and offer to “help” you. Once you respond, they follow up with a private message asking you for your account information.

Remember that social media platforms, along with many companies, will never ask you for account details electronically. If they do, it is important that you not respond with the information they requested. Instead, call the company directly and speak with someone who can assist you.
